Orders starting online.
Order books are full today. The question is where the orders will come from in five years when the clientele is no longer the same.
The situation, as we see it.
The traditional way in skilled trades is word-of-mouth. It works, it's cost-effective, and it has an inherent limit: it grows with the existing customer base and shrinks with it. When long-standing customers sell their property or retire, part of the network silently disappears.
The next generation searches differently. Someone taking over an apartment today who needs plumbing work types the question into their phone, looks at reviews, and decides based on what can be found within two minutes. A business without reviews and without price guidance is excluded from this comparison before it even takes place.
Then there's the price question. In skilled trades, it's never stated what something costs, and there are good reasons for this β every on-site situation is different. However, for the customer, it means no guidance, therefore uncertainty, therefore getting three quotes. Those who provide a reference point often win even before the offer.
The leverage lies in regional discoverability, proven trust, and an entry point that provides guidance without commitment. Not in a new brochure.
What we do specifically.
-
Regional visibility
Paid and organic presence in the actual service area. No scattering across half of Switzerland, but rather the communities that the service vehicle drives to.
-
Reference System
Work completed systematically documented: before, after, effort, region. More effective than any self-description.
-
Offer Calculator
Simple online price guidance: type of work, scope, region, leading to a price range. Not a binding offer, but a guideline and a qualified lead.
-
Google Business Profile
Complete profile, photos up-to-date, reviews actively solicited and answered. For local service providers, this is the most important single channel.
-
Building trust
Master qualifications, insurance, guarantees, a team with faces. Exactly the points customers check before letting someone into their home.
What that could look like.
Constructed example for illustration, not a customer case. Figures are assumptions.
Starting position
A plumbing and heating company with twelve employees, a good reputation, and a website from 2016. Inquiries almost exclusively by phone, growing demand for heat pumps and solar thermal systems, but no channel to make them visible.
What would be done
A service page per core service with price ranges and workflow. A calculator for initial orientation for heat pumps. Reference documentation of the last twenty projects. Regional campaigns in the municipalities in the catchment area, plus an evaluation process after each order.
What would be measurable
Number of qualified inquiries from the calculator. Proportion of quotes generated from online inquiries. Order value compared to telephone inquiries. Cost per inquiry calculated against margin.
Does that suit you?
-
01
The company has free capacity or is planning growth.
More inquiries with a full order book only lead to frustration on both sides.
-
02
The average order value is over CHF 1,500.
For smaller orders, paid acquisition rarely pays off.
-
03
Price ranges may be communicated.
Without a price, the most powerful lever in business is missing.
-
04
There is someone who processes requests promptly.
Online inquiries have a shelf life of hours, not days.
Four yeses means: The model likely fits. A no isn't a deal-breaker, but it's a topic for the initial consultation.
